Many students know how exciting Pleasantville and Briarcliff can be on weekends, with countless places to dine, shop and find entertainment.
Or not.
Some of you may think how ridiculous the last sentence is, thinking there is nothing to do besides attending university events. Many school events, however, aren't even taking place on the weekends. So what - and how - can one find out what else is there to do for the weekend?
For the occasional drink, there's Foley's Bar or Paulie's - but not everyone may want to spend his or her Friday or Saturday night there, especially if they're under 21, and may want to think of some other places to enjoy the night.
So how can one figure out what to do or where else to go to?
eHow.com offers a few pointers for those bored and wanting to do something more than visiting a pub or watching movies in your dorm with your roommates.
"Determine how much time you want to spend on an activity. If we are talking about all day then the possibilities are endless. The first step is to call everyone you know," stated one contributor to the site.
eHow stated to call everyone, not that it has to be a group hangout, but to weigh open your options to where they and yourself want to go. If a friend invites you to an event but you still want to find out what your other friends are doing, be sure to say that you "aren't sure" or "will think about it" as an excuse until you make up your mind.
If some of your friends can't think of a place to go, then go online and visit your local or regional newspaper's website or support the economy by purchasing it instead and find the weekend or entertainment section of the paper.
By going online, you can Google your own hometown, or the town of Pleasantville if you're a dormer, and find what local events are taking place. As you won't have to travel as far, you will also save yourself the money that you would spend if you chose to hang out in, say, Times Square.
"If you live in a larger area you would be surprised at how many events and festivals happen that you never hear about," said another eHow contributor. "Don't be afraid to read it. Go to something you never thought you would go to. [There can be] an arts festival or any type of live music or a parade to celebrate some obscure holiday, why not?"
When you finally find the activity you want to attend, give a call to some of your friends and let them know about the new plans, and enjoy the weekend.
