Obama's inauguration is met with excess optimism along with blind, ignorant pessimism.
President Barack Obama was sworn into office on Tues, Jan 20. He began his inaugural address shortly after reciting the Presidential oath.
Near the beginning of the speech he said, "Every so often the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds."
He acknowledged the current financial crisis and climate change among other issues that he must tackle over his next four years in office.
"Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America - they will be met," said Obama, whose statement was met with a thunderous roar of applause.
Never had I appreciated how much of a realist, yet also how much of an optimist, Obama is.
Democrats are viewing Obama as a savior and, in my opinion, might be overly optimistic. But, with that said, I applaud their support of our leader and their belief in the potential of our nation.
On the other side, since Obama's inauguration I have heard nothing but pessimism from the general Republican Party. As an open-minded registered Republican, I do what I can to ignore baseless remarks, but there have been a few outrageous comments put forth in the media that I couldn't help but notice.
Rush Limbaugh said, "We are being told that we have to hope he succeeds, that we have to bend over, grab the ankles, bend over forward, backward, whichever, because his father was black, because this is the first black president."
This epitomizes the closed-minded ignorance of some people. Barack Obama is our president, he is our leader, and he deserves our support. Regardless of political opinion, I believe every American should stand by their leader.
Self-proclaimed Republican spokespeople like Limbaugh and networks like Fox News are impeding the progress of our nation. We must unite as a people and give our new president every ounce of support that we can.
