A country's misdirected media

		A country's misdirected media

Ticker, CUNY Baruch College, NY

It seems we're getting shocking news from everywhere. The country is facing an economic crisis, North Korea is resuming their nuclear activities and Clay Aiken has finally stepped out of the closet. Now as shocking as Gaykin's, I mean Aiken's, coming out is, what is more shocking is some of the news that hasn't been reported by our laser-focused media.

Bearing Arms Isn't Right

Statesman, SUNY Stony Brook, NY

3 hours ago by Steven Mrozik

The founding fathers bestowed many unalienable rights. They are most commonly known as part of the document called the "Bill of Rights" one of which is the second amendment of the US Constitution, the right to bare arms.

The right to bare arms means the right to own a weapon, which is generally assumed to be fire arms.

Statesman, SUNY Stony Brook, NY

The first presidential debate of 2008 had all the hype and drama one could hope for. After it was confirmed that all parties involved would be physically present, the floor was set for an evening of intense discourse between senators Barack Obama and John McCain.

The problem of New York City homelessness

Pace Press, Pace University, NY

7 hours ago by JENADY GARSHOFSKY

A feeling of disgust followed by the sight and sent of decay and filth is a common sight on the streets around pace university. It is unfortunate, but there are homeless people everywhere. Every time I walk by a homeless being I feel inclined to help.

After all I am attending a prestigious university and they are rotting on the side of the street.

Movie Review: WALL-E another Pixar masterpeice

The Stute, Stevens Institute of Technology, NJ

2 days ago by Matt Neuteboom

From the moment I laid eyes on "WALL-E," I knew I was going to fall in love with the character. It's hard to comprehend how Disney can churn out movie after movie and still be able to create their possibly cutest and lovable character yet. As well, it's also hard to put into words just what's so amazing about "WALL-E.

Before we go any further, I just would like to go on the record saying that I have enjoyed the Entertainment Committee's events for my entire time at Stevens. From the Duck After Darks, to the many standup comedians that have come to campus, to the off campus trips that they have sponsored, I have sampled nearly every event that they have had to offer.

The Scientific Curmudgeon:Why Economics Will Never Be Like Physics

The Stute, Stevens Institute of Technology, NJ

2 days ago by John Horgan

We are now in the throes of an economic cataclysm that the world's smartest financial wizards, equipped with the most sophisticated computer models, could not foresee or forestall. This crisis brings to mind something that my favorite philosopher, the self-described "epistemological anarchist" Paul Feyerabend, once said: "Prayer may not be very efficient when compared to celestial mechanics, but it surely holds its own vis-a-vis some parts of economics.

"To Vote, or Not to Vote, That is the question" For This Year - For Voting

The Montclarion, MontClair STate University, NJ

2 days ago by Elif Kasapoglu

The registration deadline to vote in this year's presidential election has passed, and you're glad you signed up. Whether it was because your Freshman Seminar professor forced you to, your mother asked you to, or you just promised yourself you wouldn't be lazy this time around, you did it! But are you actually going to vote?

The odds are against you, so probably not.

Experience Not Necessary

Yeshiva University Observer, Yeshiva University, NY

I'm confused.

If I would need a doctor to perform a life-altering procedure, I would choose the person with the most experience possible, whose walls were plastered with certificates for everything and anything (I wouldn't care if they were awards for a pie eating contest, just as long as they show that this doctor's got commitment).

Sex, Sociology and Science

Knight News, Queens College, NY

ex is a favorite topic of mine, though I'm often confused. No surprise there. Even the great evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins wrote, "If you think you understand sex, you don't understand sex."

Take corn, for example. It is sexual. The tassels on top of corn plants are male and produce pollen (sperm).

To Understand Is Not To Condone

Yeshiva University Observer, Yeshiva University, NY

3 days ago by Olivia Wiznitzer

To understand is not to condone.

Unfortunately, this is difficult for some to comprehend. Some prefer to operate under the assumption that all things are equal, and nuance does not exist. In their minds, to write about a topic is to legitimize it, to discuss something forbidden is suddenly to claim it is permitted.

"To Vote, or Not to Vote, That is the question" For This Year - Against Voting

The Montclarion, MontClair STate University, NJ

3 days ago by Michael Campbell

My fellow liberal friends think I'm nuts. "Why?" you might ask. Simple enough - it's the fact that I'm not voting for Obama come Nov. 4. Yet, at the same time, I'm not voting for McCain.

"So what, then?" people ask me. Am I just not going to vote? No, I say, I'm voting third party.

The Slow Death of a Political Party

Knight News, Queens College, NY

3 days ago by John Scherer

he Republican National Convention can best be described as a desperate party, in both senses of the phrase. Not only is the Republican Party desperate, but the convention reflected the reality of what confronts the Republican campaign this election. It revealed a party that is running from itself and its record, a party that is trying to ride the wave of change while remaining stagnant in its failed policies.

P/C: President Scanlan's Proposed Virgin Club: Is Sex Acceptable On Campus?

The Quadrangle, Manhattan, NY

3 days ago by Sean Duffy

Students and teachers on campus should be proud of President Scanlan's recent comments concerning the formation of a virgin club. This is a big step forward in thinking for the more conservative leadership of college. Think about it for a minute, if Scanlan believes a virgin club should be formed, then by logical process he accepts that sex does occur on campus.

Shuttle Bus System is Problematic, But Not Terrible as it Is

The Montclarion, MontClair STate University, NJ

As yet another semester begins at Montclair State University, a new set of problems arise that people complain and whine about. Some are fixed and some aren't, but on the whole, no one is truly satisfied.

One of the problems that finds its way to the top of the complaint list is the shuttle bus situation we have had on campus for years.

P/C: President Scanlan's Proposed Virgin Club: Is Sex Acceptable on Campus?

The Quadrangle, Manhattan, NY

4 days ago by Bobby Rice

Amen, Bro. Scanlan! Finally, someone out there is sticking up for the true Catholic ideals that this college should be representing. It is about time that the heathens who run amok on this campus are shown that there is another lifestyle following the path of Jesus Almighty, away from infidelity and gonorrhea.
